Global Custodian Reference Data and Fund Accounting Data Integration

Customer Profile

The customer is a global investment manager with €147.2 (US$179.9) billion assets under management in a full range of asset management solutions including mutual funds, single manager funds, funds of hedge funds, managed accounts and structured products.

Requirement: Superior Fund Management Through Real-Time Data Updates

The customer is using PolarLake to manage its relationship with the external company, which acts as a global custodian providing fund administration services.

The project was driven by a need to receive more extensive data relating to the funds managed, and to receive this data on a more regular basis. This in turn would support better and more dynamic decision-making, and hence superior fund management.

Solution: Event-Driven Data Distribution

By using PolarLake, the customer was able to:

  • Receive from the Global Custodian business critical data (such as net asset values, back office positions etc) relating to funds throughout the day. This data distribution can be either scheduled or delivered in response to significant events.
  • Track the receipt of this information, aggregate and transform as appropriate, and insert all data automatically into the customer's portfolio management system.
  • Perform both these functions in real-time, ensuring that data available to traders is more up-to-date than ever before, trading activity is based on the most accurate information possible, and hence fund performance is improved

Why PolarLake: Rapid Configuration – No Coding

PolarLake was selected to configure and automate the data distribution process between the two organizations. The selection of PolarLake was based on a number of factors, including:

  • PolarLake’s ability to handle large, complex documents, in real-time, and thus deliver key financial data ‘on demand’ to asset managers
  • The use of configuration - rather than coding – when developing data transformation and distribution solutions, which enabled the product to meet aggressive development timescales
  • The ability to integrate seamlessly with existing systems within the customer's organization, and thus minimize the costs of disruption during development
  • The ability to extend and evolve the solution in order to accommodate subsequent projects, additional data formats, or changes to the ongoing relationship.
