Published October 22, 2001 / Press Releases

Visitors to XMLEdge 2001 / Web Services Edge 2001 will see a preview of the PolarLake v1.2.

PolarLake (Booth #514) is a proud sponsor of XMLEdge 2001 / Web Services Edge 2001 and visitors to these events will get a chance to see a preview of the latest version of PolarLake, the unique XML development and deployment platform for Java.

PolarLake v1.2, scheduled for release in December 2001, adds:

  • support for Web Services creation and deployment
  • the PolarLake Designer for developing PolarLake applications
  • the PolarLake Management Console for deploying and managing PolarLake applications including 'hot swap' configuration and application management

Ronan Bradley, Vice President of Business Development at PolarLake, said:

"PolarLake v1.2 brings a new level of capabilities to organizations using XML and Web Services in enterprise level systems.
For the developer, the Web Services support in the PolarLake Designer makes it even easier to leverage existing Java and COM systems and to create new XML-focused applications in Java.
The PolarLake Management Console, with its 'hot swap' capabilities, means that XML-based applications can now be monitored, managed and updated by IT staff.
System services used by the application, including transport and parser selection, can also be changed remotely without any application downtime."

He added:

"Using PolarLake's unique Dynamic Interface technology, the actual behaviour of the application, including the XML documents that it can process and how processing occurs, can be changed without recoding of application logic.
This is a radical change in the way applications are created and maintained and significantly reduces the initial development cost and the ongoing cost of ownership."

New Features

PolarLake features:

  • an enterprise grade server for hosting XML-processing Java applications
  • a highly productive development environment integrated with leading Java development tools
  • and a unique rules-based content driven programming framework

PolarLake v1.2 adds:

  • Additional Web Services client and server support, including automated creation and deployment of Web Services from existing EJB, COM and Java objects as well as the creation of new Java-based Web Services applications.

PolarLake's adaptor technology allows Web Services to be created and deployed in minutes from existing applications with no coding, no scripting and no code generation.

These new features are fully integrated within PolarLake and allow developers to create Web Services-based architectures capable of meeting the requirements of enterprise deployment.
  • The PolarLake Designer, a complete development workbench for building PolarLake rules-driven Java applications.

The PolarLake Designer allows applications to be developed and debugged within a fully graphical environment that integrates with leading Java IDEs (Integrated Development Environments).

The PolarLake Designer is schema independent and PolarLake applications can act as consumers or publishers of Web Services as well as handling any other XML documents, including those defined in the emerging industry-specific XML frameworks, such as FpML and XBRL in the Financial Services industry.
  • The PolarLake Management Console, a fully featured distributed application management and deployment system for PolarLake.

As well as the usual system management features, the PolarLake Management Console supports 'hot swap' application and configuration updates, allowing parsers, transports, messaging infrastructures and other PolarLake facilities to be changed without system downtime.
